Lā Mālama o Loko Iʻa - Day of Caring for the Fishpond
Athletes from around the world traded their fins for gloves as they joined the event producers for a meaningful community workday at Mālama Loko Ea Fishpond in Haleʻiwa. Standing together in the cool water, the competitors worked side by side to clear invasive grass from the walls of the ancient Hawaiian fishpond—helping to restore the health and function of this treasured loko iʻa. The effort reflected a shared commitment to mālama ʻāina, cultural stewardship, and giving back to the place that hosts the Hawaiʻi Pipeline Bodyboarding Championship, strengthening the connection between global sport and the living traditions of Hawaiʻi.
